The PS Plus Game Catalog is a rotating on-demand library included with PlayStation Plus Extra and higher plans. Eligible games can be downloaded while they remain available in the catalog, while PlayStation Plus Premium members in supported cloud-streaming regions can also stream selected titles.
The important point is that Game Catalog access is temporary subscription access, not permanent ownership. You need a qualifying membership, and the game itself must still be available through the service.
If you need the broader differences between Essential, Extra, Premium and Deluxe first, our PlayStation Plus explained guide covers the full subscription structure.
What is the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog?
The Game Catalog is PlayStation Plus’s larger on-demand game library. Sony describes it as a collection of hundreds of games available through the higher subscription tiers, with new titles added regularly.
It is different from the smaller Monthly Games benefit. Monthly Games are offered during a specific monthly availability period. The Game Catalog works more like a rotating subscription library: you browse what is currently included, download an eligible game and play while your membership and the game’s catalog availability remain valid.
The selection changes over time. Games can be added, games can leave, and availability can vary by region.
Which PS Plus tiers include the Game Catalog?
PlayStation Plus Extra
Extra is the first PlayStation Plus tier that includes the Game Catalog. It adds the downloadable catalog to the benefits already included with Essential.
If the Game Catalog is the only higher-tier feature you need, Extra provides normal catalog access without requiring Premium.
PlayStation Plus Premium
Premium also includes the normal Game Catalog. In supported regions it adds higher-tier benefits such as the Classics Catalog, Game Trials and cloud streaming.
Premium does not receive a separate replacement Game Catalog. It includes the same core catalog benefit, with extra Premium features layered on top.
PlayStation Plus Deluxe
Some markets use Deluxe instead of Premium as their highest tier. Deluxe includes Game Catalogue access along with benefits such as the Classics Catalogue and Game Trials.
Deluxe is not a fourth worldwide tier sitting alongside Premium. Which top tier is available depends on your PlayStation account region, and Deluxe should not automatically be described as including Premium cloud streaming.
How do you access Game Catalog games?
Finding the Game Catalog on PS5
On PS5, Sony’s current navigation path is:
Games home → PlayStation Plus → Benefits → Game Catalog
From there you can browse the titles currently available to your membership.
Finding the Game Catalog on PS4
On PS4, open PlayStation Plus from the function screen, scroll down and select Game Catalog.
Downloading Game Catalog games
To install an eligible catalog game, open its listing and select Download. Sony notes that PlayStation Plus games you download can also appear in your Game Library.
That does not mean the game has become a permanent purchase. Game Library visibility and permanent ownership are different things. Your right to launch a Game Catalog title remains tied to the relevant PlayStation Plus entitlement.

Do you have to claim Game Catalog games?
Game Catalog titles do not use the same monthly claim-window model as Monthly Games.
You do not need to claim every Game Catalog title during one monthly deadline to preserve access later. Instead, you browse the catalog and access or download an eligible game while:
- your PlayStation Plus tier includes the Game Catalog; and
- the game itself remains available in the catalog.
A downloaded title may remain installed on your console and visible in Game Library, but installation alone does not create permanent ownership.
Monthly Games vs Game Catalog
| Monthly Games | Game Catalog |
|---|---|
| Offered during a monthly claim period | Rotating on-demand library |
| Available from Essential upward | Available from Extra upward |
| Must be claimed during the availability window | Access or download while the title remains in the catalog |
| Claimed entitlement remains tied to an active Plus membership | Access depends on both the membership and the game remaining in the catalog |
The easiest way to remember the difference is that Monthly Games are membership-linked claims, while Game Catalog titles are part of a rotating service library.
This guide keeps the deeper Monthly Games licensing rules separate so that the distinction stays clear without turning the article into a full retention guide.

How the Game Catalog rotates
Sony adds new Game Catalog titles regularly, but the library is not permanent. Availability can change, and some games are offered only for a limited period.
That means a game you see today may not remain in the catalog indefinitely. Sony can publish an end date for an individual title, and the available selection can also differ between countries or regions.
One current change is especially relevant to the catalog’s future mix: Sony states that from January 2026, PS4 games are added only intermittently. The Game Catalog continues to include PS4 content, but new PS4 additions are no longer presented as a regular part of every update.
This article deliberately avoids listing the current month’s additions and removals. Those are dated lineup/news topics, while the mechanics described here are intended to remain evergreen.
What happens when a Game Catalog game leaves?
Downloading a Game Catalog game does not let you keep playing it indefinitely after its catalog entitlement ends.
Sony’s PlayStation Plus terms state that downloaded subscription games remain playable only while you have a valid subscription and the game remains available in the service. If the game leaves, the catalog licence no longer provides access even if the files are still installed.
Buying the game separately gives you a separate purchase entitlement. The detailed questions around saves, DLC, repurchasing, reinstalling and licence edge cases are intentionally outside this guide’s scope.
What happens if your PlayStation Plus plan changes?
Extra to Essential
Game Catalog access requires Extra or a higher eligible plan. Sony says a downgrade takes effect on your next payment date.
If you move from Extra to Essential, you keep Extra benefits until that downgrade becomes effective. Afterward, Game Catalog access ends because Essential does not include it.
Premium to Extra
Extra still includes the normal Game Catalog, so downgrading from Premium to Extra does not remove ordinary downloadable Game Catalog access.
What you lose when the change becomes effective are the benefits that require Premium, such as Premium cloud streaming and other Premium-only features.
Cancellation or expiry
Cancelling PlayStation Plus stops renewal rather than immediately ending a paid subscription period. Sony says your benefits continue until that period expires.
Once the qualifying membership ends, Game Catalog access ends too. This section is only about the access rule; account-management steps belong in dedicated subscription guides.
Can you stream Game Catalog games?
Yes, but streaming is not part of standard Extra access.
In supported regions, PlayStation Plus Premium members can stream selected Game Catalog titles instead of downloading them. Not every catalog game supports streaming, and device availability varies.
Extra remains primarily the downloadable Game Catalog tier. Deluxe markets should not be assumed to include cloud streaming simply because Deluxe is the highest local plan.

Who is the Game Catalog useful for?
The Game Catalog is most relevant if you enjoy trying many different games rather than buying every title individually.
It can suit players who:
- move regularly between different genres;
- prefer downloading subscription games instead of relying only on streaming;
- alternate between short games and longer releases;
- want a larger library to explore without purchasing every game first.
It may matter less if you buy a small fixed set of games and rarely explore subscription libraries. That is a usage difference rather than a universal judgment about whether Extra is “worth it.”

Regional differences to know
PlayStation Plus content is not identical worldwide.
- Premium vs Deluxe: some regions use Deluxe instead of Premium.
- Cloud streaming: availability depends on region, plan, device and game.
- Catalog selection: individual games can vary by country or region.
- Platform availability: some titles and features depend on the console or supported device.
- PS4 additions: Sony currently says new PS4 additions are intermittent from January 2026.

Frequently asked questions
What is the PS Plus Game Catalog?
It is a rotating on-demand library of hundreds of games included with PlayStation Plus Extra and higher eligible plans.
Which PS Plus tiers include the Game Catalog?
Extra and Premium include the Game Catalog in Premium markets. In regions using Deluxe instead of Premium, Extra and Deluxe include the Game Catalogue.
Do you keep Game Catalog games?
Not as permanent purchases. Access depends on maintaining an eligible PlayStation Plus membership and on the game remaining available through the catalog.
Do Game Catalog games leave PS Plus?
Yes. The library rotates, and Sony states that game availability can change. Some games are available only for a limited time.
Do you need to claim Game Catalog games?
Not in the same way as Monthly Games. You access or download eligible catalog titles while they are available and while your subscription tier qualifies.
Can you download Game Catalog games?
Yes. Eligible catalog games can be downloaded on supported PS5 or PS4 consoles when your membership includes Game Catalog access.
Can you stream PS Plus Game Catalog games?
Premium members in supported cloud-streaming regions can stream selected eligible catalog games. Not every title is streamable.
What happens if you downgrade from Extra?
If you downgrade to Essential, Game Catalog access ends when the downgrade takes effect on your next payment date. A Premium-to-Extra downgrade retains normal Game Catalog access because Extra also includes it.
Is Game Catalog the same as Monthly Games?
No. Monthly Games are offered during a claim window. Game Catalog is a larger rotating library accessed while both the game and your qualifying subscription remain eligible.
Does the Game Catalog differ by region?
Yes. Sony says PlayStation Plus content and features can vary by country or region, subscription tier, platform and device.
